MIKE LAMBERT
Part 2
After the successful interview in Rotterdam during the Who Am I-shoot, I kept in touch with Mike Lambert. I called him up recently to ask him what he was up to.
So how did you like the first interview?
I thought it was really good. I liked it a lot. Thanks.
Glad you liked it. I was real happy with it myself. So what are you up to?
I just finished doing a scene in a new movie, directed by the guy who made Dr. Wai In The Scripture With No Words. Do you know him?
Yes I do. He's the director of A Chinese Ghost Story, right? Ching Siu Tung.
Yeah, that's him. You pronounce it differently, but that's the guy. He does a lot of these fantasy/swordplay type movies.
So what was your part in this?
I didn't have that big a part, I did some action stuff and stunt work. I did a scene where we're inside this prison and we go to beat this guy up and rape him, you know how it goes, and he fights back and beats us. It was only three days work, but it was good fun. I believe it's called The Longest Day. The star is Chin Man Cheuk.
And how did the rest of the Who Am I shoot go?
Good. It'll be out the 18th of January I believe. I don't know when it'll reach your shores. We did some more scenes in Malaysia, the opening scenes of the movie. After getting back from Malaysia I started work on another movie, directed by Corey Yuen Kwai and Yuen Dak. They made the Fong Sai Yuk movies and they won a shitload of awards for action choreography. These guys were part of the original Seven Little Fortunes, along with Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Sammo Hung and Yuen Wah. The movie stars Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce, and I have a great fight scene with her.
Really? I didn't know she was making movies.
Yeah, she's done about 3 or 4 movies now. This movie's called Enter The Phoenix, but they might change that to And Now You're Dead.
Anything else you're planning?
I'll probably be in Donnie Yen's new movie, and there's talk of doing movies with Jet Li and Lau Ching Wan. The thing with Donnie Yen is pretty definite, I don't know if the other two are going to happen yet. Also I bought this Sony digital camera with a professional editing deck. It's really great. You can store about two and a half hours worth of video in there and do titles, dubbing, music, everything. You could actually edit an entire low-budget movie on this thing. I'm gonna get some stuntmen together, including Jet Li's stunt double (...Mike pronounces his name in Cantonese, and I have no idea what he's saying...), I don't know how you write it in english. He was in Tsui Hark's Double Team recently, the bald-headed guy...
Is this the guy who gets his head kicked through a window by Van Damme?
Yeah, that's him. We're gonna find a playground in Kowloon and choreograph some stunts for the camera, because I'd really like to get into action directing and fight choreography. So I'm going to record it and edit it, so I've got something to show to producers.
Sounds cool.
Yeah. When I'm done I'll send you a copy.
Oh, excellent. That'd be really great. Good to hear you're doing well. Thanks a lot, man.
Yeah, no problem. And happy New Year!
